Vincent Majestyk, een meloenenteler in Californië is in grote problemen geraakt door valse beschuldigingen. Als zijn arbeiders worden bedreigd door een lokale maffiabaas neemt hij het recht in eigen hand en slaat hij keihard terug. Hij wordt gepakt, in de gevangenis gegooid en belandt in een cel bij Frank Renda, een berucht maffialid. Wanneer de maffia Frank wil bevrijden, steekt Majestyk daar een stokje voor. Frank weet uiteindelijk toch te ontsnappen en zweert wraak.
